Tragedy struck on Friday afternoon on the L3073 state road, connecting Frankenberg/Eder and Somplar, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Police headquarters for Northern Hesse confirmed the incident.
The collision, a head-on impact, occurred within a long, sweeping curve in the roadway. Initial investigations indicate that both vehicles were propelled down an embankment as a result of the force of the crash.
The first vehicle involved contained two occupants who were trapped within the wreckage and succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A second vehicle, carrying four individuals, sustained damage; three occupants suffered minor injuries, while one was seriously wounded.
The L3073 was completely closed to traffic to facilitate the accident investigation and recovery operations. The precise cause of the accident remains under investigation.
