In a tragic incident, a fatal collision occurred on the afternoon of the day in the Bei Naurath forest in the German state of Rhineland-Pfalz, leaving two people dead.
According to the police, a car veered onto the wrong side of the road, near the Mehring highway exit, at approximately 1:20 pm and collided with a truck. The 76-year-old driver of the car and his 68-year-old passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The 54-year-old truck driver, however, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The entire road was closed until around 7:30 pm to facilitate the investigation and clearance of the accident site.
Multiple police units, a specialized traffic accident team, rescue services, including a helicopter, a medical emergency team and volunteer fire departments, were involved in the rescue and recovery efforts. The police are still investigating the exact causes of the accident.
