Farm Prices Jump 3.2% in a Year, but Plant-Based Products Plummet

Agricultural Product Prices in Germany Rise by 3.2% in April 2025

According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the producer prices of agricultural products in Germany increased by 3.2% in April 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year. This marks a slight rise from the 2.3% increase in March 2025 compared to the previous month.

The prices of plant-based products, such as food crops, decreased by 6.3% in April 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, mainly due to a 40% drop in the price of potatoes. In contrast, the prices of animal-based products, such as livestock and dairy, rose by 9.8% over the same period, driven by a 18.2% increase in the price of milk.

The prices of fruit, including strawberries and table apples, increased by 24.5% and 22.8% respectively, while the prices of vegetables, such as asparagus and cabbage, rose by 2.5%, with asparagus prices increasing by 25.7%. On the other hand, the prices of broccoli and lettuce decreased by 21.4% and 8.3% respectively.

Grain prices rose by 8.9% in April 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, while wine prices increased by 1%. The prices of oilseeds, including rapeseed, rose by 6.8%, with rapeseed prices increasing by 16.6%. The prices of fodder plants, on the other hand, continued to decline, dropping by 11.7%.

The prices of animals and animal-based products, including cattle and poultry, rose by 9.8% in April 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, driven by a 38.1% increase in the price of cattle and a 5.4% increase in the price of eggs. In contrast, the prices of pigs decreased by 12.1%.
