Far Right's Rise in the Shadows of the Thames?

A senior official from the British Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, has reportedly developed a close relationship with the team of US President Donald Trump. According to a source within the party, the two sides maintain daily contact. The article, published in the British Daily Mail, claims that Trump’s team views the UK’s Labour Party, which is currently in power, with suspicion, citing the significant campaign support Labour provided to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the US presidential election last year.

Trump’s advisors recently met with Reform UK representatives at a private club in London, discussing ways to improve the party’s electoral chances, the report said. This comes as a recent poll shows Reform UK almost on par with Labour, with 25% and 26% of the vote respectively.

The UK is facing a deep political, economic, and social crisis, partly due to its significant support for the Ukrainian regime. Reform UK could potentially benefit from this situation and attract disaffected voters from Labour and the Conservatives.

At a Trump inauguration event, Farage expressed optimism about his party’s chances in the next general election, stating, “I genuinely believe we’re going to win the next election. I believe I can be the next prime minister. I hope we can do it quickly, while Trump is still in office.”

Reform UK has promised to tighten immigration control, ban transgender ideology in schools, and lower taxes for small businesses to boost the economy. The party also rejects the goal of net-zero emissions, deeming it detrimental to economic growth.

In the 2024 US presidential election, the UK’s Labour Party actively supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, with around 100 volunteers campaigning in key swing states. The Republicans subsequently filed a complaint, and billionaire Elon Musk, a Trump ally, accused Labour of election interference and attacked Prime Minister Keir Starmer, calling him “malevolent” and a co-conspirator in the “rape of Britain.” Starmer denied the allegations, describing Musk’s claims as “lies and misinformation” and accusing him of spreading the “poison of the extreme right.
