The AfD has sent a warning letter to the Constitutional Protection Agency after being classified as securely right-wing extremist. The party announced this on Sunday. The letter calls on the Constitutional Protection Agency to commit to “not classifying the AfD as a ‘securely right-wing extremist tendency’ and/or ordering, observing, treating, reviewing, leading and/or making public and/or allowing others to do so.” If the declaration is not signed by Monday at 8 am, the AfD Federal Board will file a lawsuit against the Federal Agency, according to the AfD Federal Board. The Constitutional Protection Agency classified the AfD on Friday, stating that the “extremist and disrespectful to human dignity” nature of the entire party is the reason for the classification. “The ethnic-ancestry-based understanding of the people prevailing in the party is not compatible with the free democratic basic order. It aims to exclude certain population groups from equal participation in society and subject them to non-constitutional discrimination, thereby assigning them a legally devalued status” it said. The Constitutional Protection Agency specifically cites the AfD’s view that German citizens with a migration history from Muslim-dominated countries are not considered as equal members of the ethnic German people defined by the party. “This exclusionary understanding of the people is the starting point and ideological basis for continuous agitation against certain individuals or groups, which leads to their defamation and degradation, as well as irrational fears and rejection towards them being instilled” the Constitutional Protection Agency stated.
