Far-Right Party Names Leader for Youth Wing

A leading figure is reportedly set to head the newly forming youth organization of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Sources within the party leadership have confirmed to Bild newspaper that Jan-Pascal Hohm, a member of the Brandenburg state parliament, is the expected candidate.

The new youth organization is scheduled to officially launch in November, with Hohm anticipated to stand for election as its leader. Hohm has acknowledged his ambition to take on a leadership role, stating he would “certainly consider” accepting responsibility within the new structure, should the conditions be suitable.

The founding meeting of the youth organization is planned for November 29th and 30th in Gießen. It remains unclear whether Hohm will face any opposing candidates. This new organization comes after a decision at the party’s recent convention to dissolve the previous youth wing, Junge Alternative (JA). The JA had previously been classified as right-wing extremist by German domestic intelligence agencies in 2023.
