Faith Leader Urges No Nuclear Weapons

Marking the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Chairperson of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), Bishop Kirsten Fehrs, has issued a stark warning against the use of nuclear weapons.

“The images from Hiroshima and Nagasaki serve as a reminder to us even today” Bishop Fehrs stated on Monday. “Nuclear weapons inflict mass, enduring and devastating violence – they are ethically untenable.

Acknowledging the heightened emphasis on nuclear deterrence within current geopolitical tensions and threats involving nuclear weapon deployment, Bishop Fehrs stressed the urgency of preventing any potential use of these weapons. She affirmed the continued pursuit of a world free of nuclear arms as a necessary and paramount goal.
