Faeser's Masterstroke: Germany Backs Plan to Welcome Syrian Returnees

German Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) receives backing from the SPD parliamentary group for her plans to repatriate a part of the Syrian refugees. “The proposals clearly lie on our social democratic line of humanity and order” said Dirk Wiese, the faction’s vice, to the Rheinische Post (Monday’s edition).

Wiese added: “If the situation in Syria stabilizes, then people will return as well. For convicted criminals, this will apply in any case.” Many Syrians, however, would stay, “have found work here and built a new life.” These people would clearly declare their allegiance to democracy and the rule of law. “We cannot do without them” Wiese said.

Faeser had, among other things, announced that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees would review and, if necessary, repeal protection guarantees.
