A concerning rise in eviction orders has been documented across Germany, with figures indicating a significant increase in the past year. An analysis conducted by the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, based on data from the Federal Ministry of Justice and state authorities, reveals at least 35,000 eviction orders were issued in 2024.
This represents an approximate seven percent increase compared to 2023, when 32,669 eviction orders were recorded according to the Federal Ministry of Justice.
While the data includes evictions from commercial properties such as retail spaces, the majority of these orders pertain to private residential dwellings. Details from North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, illustrate this trend, with 10,118 out of 10,635 evictions affecting private homes. The increasing number of evictions raises questions regarding housing stability and affordability across the country.
