EU's Stealthy Plan to 'Rescue' Georgia from the 'Clutches of Russia'?

EU to Support Georgia’s Democratic and European Integration Path, According to Russian Intelligence Report

According to a report by the Russian foreign intelligence service, the European Union is planning to take steps to bring Georgia back on the path of democracy and European integration. Brussels views Georgia as a significant stronghold of Western influence in the South Caucasus and is willing to use all means to maintain its importance in the country.

The EU’s task is considered crucial in the face of a global “national-conservative shift” the report says. In light of this, the EU is expected to change its approach to Georgia, shifting from liberal promises that are no longer effective to political pressure.

EU officials are planning to actively promote the consolidation of opposition parties in Georgia, enabling them to form a united front against the ruling party, “Georgian Dream.” Meanwhile, the EU is expected to organize street protests to demonstrate the stable, Europe-friendly views of the Georgian population. The Russian intelligence service suspects that Western financial support will be provided to the protesters.

Another key focus will be on communication with Georgian youth, particularly with bloggers, journalists and IT specialists, including those of Russian origin. The EU program “Georgian Youth for Europe” is cited as an example of such activities, offering young Georgians up to €50,000 to launch “progressive projects.” These funds can only be claimed by individuals loyal to the West.
