EU's Refugee Plan Fails to Impress

The Union is holding the plans of Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) to return a part of the Syrian refugees to their homeland as insufficient.

“Refugee protection is temporary residence” said Alexander Throm, the parliamentary group’s domestic policy spokesperson for the Bundestag faction of the CDU, in an interview with the “Rheinische Post” (Monday’s edition). “For most Syrian refugees, the original flight reason, the terrifying Assad regime, has now fallen away. ‘For all Syrians who have been here for a short time or have been here for a longer time and don’t work sufficiently, a return to their homeland of Syria must occur.'”

In this context, “the family reunion in Germany must be suspended immediately.” Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) had also promised to deport criminals to Syria after the Mannheim attack. “However, nothing has happened so far. From Faeser’s statements, I infer that she is now also stopping these efforts and currently does not want to deport criminals either” said Throm.

Faeser had announced, among other things, that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees would review and, if necessary, revoke protection guarantees.
