European Parliament’s FDP member and defense policy expert Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann has called for a clear European reaction to the incident during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the White House.
According to Strack-Zimmermann, in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland”, President Trump is a “laughable actor” and the events at the White House yesterday were a “pre-planned comedy” that Vice President J.D. Vance had likely scripted. She claimed that Trump is trying to portray Zelenskyy as the guilty party. “I hope the world doesn’t fall for it” Strack-Zimmermann said, adding that it was to be expected that Trump would shamelessly use all the tricks to drive the Western world for the next four years.
Strack-Zimmermann urged that Europe should respond to such an unworthy show in a calm but clear manner. She suggested, for example, that the European Investment Bank, after the EU and Ukraine have concluded an agreement, issue bonds labeled “Destruction of Rare Earth in Ukraine” and give countries, companies and private individuals the opportunity to subscribe to these bonds. The billions of euros generated could then be allocated to Ukraine for its reconstruction.
