European Leaders Praise Trump's Push For Ukraine Peace

European leaders have acknowledged and welcomed the efforts of US President Donald Trump to facilitate an end to the conflict in Ukraine and pursue a “just and lasting peace.

The statement, released Saturday, came following a briefing by President Trump to French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German opposition leader Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, detailing his recent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

The European leaders indicated their willingness to participate in a trilateral summit involving President Trump, President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They emphasized the importance of securing robust security guarantees for Ukraine to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

While supporting ongoing efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution, the leaders affirmed their commitment to maintaining pressure on Russia through continued support for Ukraine. They signaled a readiness to strengthen sanctions and economic measures until a “just and lasting peace” is attained, assuring Ukraine of “unwavering solidarity” in upholding both its interests and the broader security concerns of Europe.
