Leading European research institutions have announced the formation of a European Alliance for Proximity-Induced Pharmacology. The Goethe University Frankfurt jointly announced the initiative with partners from Barcelona, Dundee, Lausanne and Vienna on Thursday. This innovative class of compounds enables the targeted removal of disease-causing proteins, including many previously considered untreatable targets.
The planned alliance aims to consolidate expertise, infrastructure and digital platforms, while also facilitating access to technologies. According to Ivan Dikic of Goethe University, these strategies are redefining the rules of drug development. Networking national activities with internationally leading institutions is expected to accelerate the innovation process.
The participating research centers combine complementary expertise in medicinal chemistry, structural biology and computational methods. The authors emphasize the fundamental importance of academic research and call for intensified collaboration between science and industry to fully unlock the therapeutic potential.
