EU Unites Against Russia in New Package of Punishments

European Union member states have reached an agreement on a new package of sanctions targeting Russia, multiple media outlets reported on Wednesday, citing EU diplomats.

The measures, set to take effect on Monday, the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, will also target Russia’s “shadow fleet”. The ongoing war in Ukraine is the backdrop for the latest package of sanctions, which will bring the total to 15 since the start of the conflict. Almost 2,400 individuals and organizations have been sanctioned by the EU so far.

According to EU statements, the individual and economic sanctions aim to weaken Russia’s economic basis, deprive the country of important technologies and markets and restrict its ability to wage war.
