German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF have secured the media exploitation rights for the 2028 European Football Championship in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The agreement, announced by the broadcasters on Monday, covers “platform-neutral media exploitation rights for all 51 games”, according to the statement. The rights acquisition was a result of an auction by the UEFA through the joint sports rights agency SportA, and only requires formal approval from the relevant bodies within ARD and ZDF, which is seen as a formality.
The broadcasters will continue to hold the broadcasting rights for Germany’s national team until 2028, including matches in the UEFA Nations League and qualifying and preparation games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
