A power outage of significant importance occurred at the Federal Police’s location in Sankt Augustin on Wednesday, according to reports from security sources, citing the German newspaper Welt.
The incident, which was triggered by a fire in a transformer housing, is believed to have been caused by a technical defect, with no further information available at present. The location in question is of particular significance, as it is the site of the GSG 9, the elite counter-terrorism unit of the Federal Police, responsible for high-risk operations and emergency responses.
In a brief statement, the Federal Police assured that the operational readiness of all units was ensured at all times, with the German Technical Relief Organization (THW) providing support on site and setting up a temporary emergency power supply, which remains in operation. The duration of the temporary power supply will depend on the time it takes for the responsible network operator to repair the damage, the Federal Police said. As of now, no “security-relevant incidents” or “specific occurrences related to the event” have been reported.
