Following a plane crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport, several people have been injured, according to medical staff. In statements to multiple media outlets, the medical staff confirmed that up to eight people were injured, with the extent of the injuries still unknown. The airport operator, in a post on X/Twitter, stated that the incident involved a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis.
“Emergency teams are on the scene. All passengers and crew members are accounted for and safe” the post read.
The local police department said it was on the scene and working with medical staff, who were tending to the injured in a makeshift treatment area beside the runway.
News agency Reuters and local media outlets contradict the airport’s statement, reporting that there are at least eight injured, with one person in critical condition.
Initial, unconfirmed images showed a seemingly crashed Bombardier plane, a type of jet commonly used for regional flights, lying on its side on the asphalt. Smoke was rising from the wreckage. The regional police confirmed to dpa that they were supporting the local aviation authorities in the operation.
