Federal Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) calls for uniform rules on gender-neutral language in schools across the country. In an interview with the newspapers of the Funke Media Group, Prien stated, “In a country of immigrants, it is important to teach and write according to uniform rules.” She believes that schools and authorities should adhere to the guidelines set by the Council of the German Orthography.
Prien further emphasized that gender-sensitive language is important, but the use of special characters such as asterisks, double colons, or underscores should not be taught or used in schools. She believes that these rules are crucial and will ensure their implementation in her ministry as well. As a CDU politician, Prien highlights the significance of establishing clear guidelines on gender-neutral language to promote consistency and uniformity in education.
