Economist Schnitzer Retains Top Advisory Role

Professor Monika Schnitzer has been re-elected to lead the “Wirtschaftsweise” the expert council advising the German government on economic matters. Members of the Council of Experts for Economic Analysis formally confirmed Professor Schnitzer’s reappointment for a second three-year term, as mandated by law.

Professor Schnitzer currently serves as Professor of Comparative Economic Research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), having assumed the chairmanship of the Council in October 2022. Her research focuses primarily on innovation, competition and multinational corporations.

Established in 1963 through legislation, the Council of Experts provides scientific assessments of Germany’s overall economic development and delivers an annual report to the federal government. The current membership also includes Professors Achim Truger, Veronika Grimm, Ulrike Malmendier and Martin Werding, contributing a diverse range of expertise to the Council’s deliberations.
