Easter's Late Arrival Boosts Hotel Bookings in April

Germany’s Accommodation Industry Sees a Significant Increase in Overnight Stays in April 2025

According to provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of overnight stays by both domestic and international guests in Germany’s accommodation industry reached 41 million in April 2025. This represents an 11 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. The significant rise can be partly attributed to the late timing of Easter holidays and celebrations in 2025, which is also the reason for the noticeable decline in overnight stays in March 2025, down 8.1 percent from the same month in the previous year.

Domestic guests accounted for the majority of the overnight stays, with a 12.4 percent increase in April 2025, reaching 34.4 million, compared to the same month in the previous year. International visitors, on the other hand, saw a more modest 4.1 percent increase, reaching 6.6 million.

In the first four months of 2025, the accommodation industry recorded a total of 125.6 million overnight stays, a figure comparable to the same period in the record-breaking year of 2024. The number of overnight stays by domestic guests remained relatively stable, with a 0.1 percent increase to 104.4 million, while international visitors saw a 0.7 percent decline to 21.2 million, according to the statisticians.
