East Green Party Urgently Calls for More Representation in Bundestag Faction

In the days leading up to the crucial personnel listing of the Bundestag faction of the Greens, prominent eastern German Greens have written a passionate letter to all deputies. In the letter, the authors call for a more significant role for the eastern German Greens. “It is not enough to visit the east; one must also allow it to participate in decision-making” the letter states, as reported by the Tagesspiegel.

The letter was signed by, among others, the former Saxon Environment Minister Wolfram Günther, the former Stasi documentation commissioner Marianne Birthler and the chairwoman of the Saxon Greens, Franziska Schubert. The letter was also signed by the chairpersons from Sachsen-Anhalt, Sachsen and Thüringen, Dennis Helmich, Madeleine Linke, Marie Müser, Ann-Sophie Bohm and Luis Schäfer.

The letter is being made public just before the final personnel listing of the Bundestag faction on Wednesday and one year before the important state elections in Sachsen-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. “It needs faces that stand for green alliance politics in the east. People who are rooted here, who know the challenges and potentials, who listen, mediate and take responsibility” the signatories demand.
