Dynamo Dresden and Arminia Bielefeld secure promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga
Dynamo Dresden has secured promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, while Arminia Bielefeld will be joining them from the 3rd Liga. Dynamo managed to clinch the promotion despite losing 0-1 at Waldhof Mannheim, thanks to the 1. FC Saarbrücken’s 2-4 defeat against Alemannia Aachen at the same time. The game was briefly interrupted just before the final whistle as both fanbases managed to gain access to the field. Arminia will be celebrating their return to the second tier from the comfort of their couch on Sunday.
Dynamo Dresden had spent the past three years in the third tier since their relegation, while Arminia Bielefeld had been there for two years. Saarbrücken, who were in the relegation play-off spot, have now lost that position to Energie Cottbus, who defeated Hansa Rostock 3-1. Cottbus and Saarbrücken are currently tied on points and Rostock, with two points less, still has a chance to secure a spot in the relegation play-offs.
