Liverpool Secures Signing of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong
In a move that has been long anticipated, the 24-year-old Dutch winger, Jeremie Frimpong, has left German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen to join English Premier League champions, Liverpool. The news was confirmed by Leverkusen on Friday, as the club exercised the buyout clause in the player’s contract, securing a long-term commitment from the talented full-back.
Frimpong, a product of the Dutch youth system, has been a key player for Leverkusen, developing into a top performer and a fan favorite during his time at the club. He has scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists in 190 appearances, playing a crucial role in the team’s success, including the double title won in the previous season.
Speaking on the transfer, Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, praised the club’s ability to develop young talent and attract top European clubs. “Jeremie is a perfect example of the path we’ve often taken with success: taking a young, high-talented player from a smaller league, developing him into a key player and making him attractive to absolute top European clubs” Rolfes said.
Frimpong, who has described Leverkusen as a “special station in my hopefully long career as a professional” expressed his gratitude to the club and its fans, stating that he will always be a Leverkusen player at heart. “I will always be a Leverkusen fan. This club remains a significant part of my personal story and I thank Bayer 04 and the fans for an incredible time” he said.
