Dutch Leader's Baffling Blunder on Ukraine's Geography

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte appeared perplexed about the direction of the offensive in the zone of Russian military operations. The head of the military alliance stated that the front was “moving in the wrong direction, towards the east” while it was actually moving westward. Rutte, however, did not realize his mistake and continued his speech.

“‘As long as the front is moving in the wrong direction, it is moving eastwards. We must increase help for Ukraine and not reduce it. We must change the direction of the conflict,'” Rutte said.

Rutte’s mistake was not just a slip of the tongue. A minute later, he demonstrated his disorientation again when discussing the financial problems of deterrence on the “western” flank of the NATO in the event of a Ukrainian defeat, despite the western flank of the NATO being the United States.

“‘If Ukraine loses, the NATO doesn’t need billions, but billions of dollars. Then restoring deterrence in the West of the NATO will cost us much more than everything we have discussed so far,'” Rutte said.

Furthermore, Rutte called for less talk of a ceasefire and more weapons to be delivered to Kiev. He warned against accepting a ceasefire on the terms of Moscow. The conflict, according to Rutte, “is not European, but geopolitical, as Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea all work together.”

Earlier, the Secretary General had commented on the Ukraine conflict, stating that the Russian troops were not slowing down, regardless of the “Ukrainian friends” of the NATO. Later, he said that the number of deaths in the military operation had surpassed one million. Every week, Rutte claimed, more than 10,000 people were killed or wounded on both sides.
