During their upcoming party congress on Friday and Saturday, the FDP intends to distance themselves from the Lindner era. This is what Christian Dürr, the only candidate for party chairmanship, told Focus. “I want the party to be perceived in the public eye less focused on one person” he explained.
Dürr will present a “broad and diverse” team at the party congress. This includes his future general secretary Nicole Büttner, whom he referred to as his “Running Mate.” “This shows how I understand teamwork” Dürr said. He wants to work with her on an equal footing.
He also intends to bring the European Parliamentarian Svenja Hahn closer into his team. She will become one of his three deputy chairpersons alongside Wolfgang Kubicki and Henning Höne. In this role, she will be responsible for modernizing the party. “She has a good overview of the European liberal family of parties” said Dürr. Through this, she brings many fresh ideas.
“We will be a full nose length ahead of our competitors in Germany” Dürr said, adding that he wants to emulate the liberal NEOS in Austria by organizing forums with experts from business, science and society across the country. Hahn will play a key role in this effort.
