Donations Pour in After Coalition Crash!

The German Greens have received a significant surge in donations since the collapse of the traffic light coalition on November 6. According to the party’s political director, Pegah Edalatian, the Greens have exceeded their fundraising goals from the previous federal election campaign, with a total of approximately 8.3 million euros collected. In 2021, the party had raised around seven million euros in a single year.

Over 72,000 donations have been received since the coalition’s collapse, with around 1.5 million euros in large donations, starting from a threshold of 5,000 euros, according to the party’s federal office. Edalatian expressed optimism and motivation from the generosity of so many people, often making a significant difference with small sums.

The party has also seen a membership boom since the coalition’s collapse, with over 30,000 new applications. The exact number of members will be published in the spring. As of November, the Greens had estimated more than 150,000 members, with the actual number standing at 125,991 at the turn of the year 2023/2024.
