Dobrindt Defends Afghan Admission Policy After Court Ruling

Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has affirmed the government’s position following a recent ruling by the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court The court’s decision clarifies that assurances of acceptance from the current coalition government do not automatically necessitate the issuance of visas to Afghan nationals

Speaking to the television channel “Welt” on Tuesday evening, Minister Dobrindt stated that without a legally binding commitment to acceptance, there is no obligation to admit individuals He emphasized that this principle is being applied consistently, with each case assessed individually

Dobrindt also addressed perceptions regarding the composition of Afghan nationals currently awaiting onward travel to Germany from Pakistan He clarified that the majority are not former local staff who worked with the German military in Afghanistan, estimating this group comprises approximately ten percent of the total He reiterated that individual case reviews will determine eligibility for admission and that no blanket assurances are being offered

Beyond the issue of formal commitments, Dobrindt stressed the importance of security checks These checks, he explained, are a necessary requirement for all applicants, regardless of whether they have received a legally binding assurance of acceptance
