The German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle is taking a former employee to court to reclaim a six-figure sum. The more than ten-year-old supply contract, which is estimated to be worth over a million euros, is considered morally reprehensible, according to a report by “Business Insider” the sender’s reason for taking the step.
The spokesperson for Culture Minister Claudia Roth (Greens) confirmed the development: “The action results from an examination of pension agreements by the DW in the light of recent court rulings on the moral reprehensibility of pension payments in public broadcasting.” This is a reference to the events at the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB), where a high-ranking station manager was dismissed and subsequently provided with a high severance package.
Whether it is a similar case at Deutsche Welle was initially unclear. “Business Insider” reported that the sender would not comment on this.
