Deputy Chair Wolfgang Kubicki to Challenge Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann for Party Leadership in May!

Berlin, Germany – The deputy chairman of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), Wolfgang Kubicki, is reportedly considering a candidacy for the party’s leadership.

Kubicki stated in an interview with the “Bild” that he has been approached by many people from the party and its supporters to take over the leadership and he is seriously considering running in May to hold the party together and re-motivate its members. This development comes after Kubicki previously announced his intention to leave politics.

The potential candidacy of Kubicki may lead to a counter-candidacy with European Parliament member Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, who has expressed her willingness to run for the party’s leadership. Strack-Zimmermann told the “Bild” that she stands fully behind the FDP and is willing to take responsibility within the party where it is necessary and desired. She emphasized the importance of the party presenting a unified and clear course and that after a relatively narrow-thematic election campaign, the party needs to expand its thematic focus, for example, on civil rights.
