DAX CRASHES: Trump's Tariff Threat Sends German Stocks Plummeting!

On Thursday, the Dax failed to make gains. At the Xetra market close, the index was calculated at 22,551 points, a minus of 1.1 percent compared to the previous day’s close. Beiersdorf, Rheinmetall and Deutsche Telekom led the list of gainers, while BMW, Porsche and Zalando suffered the largest declines.

The main theme on the trading floor remains the customs announcements by US President Donald Trump. He recently made it clear that he intends to impose a 25 percent tariff on imports from the European Union. An official announcement is expected in the coming days. Whether it will be implemented or, as in the case of Canada and Mexico, initially suspended, remains unclear. However, the uncertainty among investors is great.

The European common currency was weaker on Thursday afternoon: one euro cost 1.0406 US dollars and one dollar was worth 0.9610 euros.

Meanwhile, the oil price rose significantly: a barrel of the North Sea’s Brent crude cost around 17:00 CET at 73.97 US dollars, a 2.0 percent increase from the close of the previous trading day.
