Alexander Dobrindt, the leader of the Landesgruppe of the Christian Social Union (CSU), has expressed admiration for the swift decision-making of US President Donald Trump, citing it as an example for Germany to follow.
In an interview with the Rheinische Post, Dobrindt pointed out that the images of Trump signing executive orders have shown that a president can bring about political changes through a single stroke of the pen. He believes that this realization has led to an understanding that rapid political changes are possible in democracies, as long as there is the necessary willingness of responsible politicians.
Dobrindt emphasized the importance of the Chancellor’s authority in the German constitution, stating that it makes it possible and necessary to demonstrate the ability to act at the political forefront on issues such as migration. He believes that clear decisions should be a part of politics.
When asked if he sees the US democracy as being threatened by Trump, Dobrindt replied that he has not evaluated the content of Trump’s decisions, but rather the fact that politics is capable of making fundamental decisions. He expects the same in Germany.
Dobrindt acknowledged that the United States and Germany differ in many ways, but he emphasized that the US is undoubtedly a democracy.
