A fatal traffic collision occurred early Thursday morning on the Bundesstraße 311 near Öpfingen, Germany Police in Ulm report that a 38-year-old man was driving his Mazda 5 from Ulm towards Ehingen when he attempted to overtake a van in a no-overtaking zone between Oberdischingen and Öpfingen
At approximately 3:45 AM, the driver then initiated an overtaking maneuver of a truck, at which point his vehicle collided head-on with an Audi A4 driven by a 55-year-old man Both drivers sustained critical injuries and died at the scene
Authorities state the driver of the white truck, whom the 38-year-old was attempting to pass, apparently did not notice the collision and continued driving towards Ehingen Police are requesting that this driver come forward as a witness to the incident The B311 was fully closed for approximately five and a half hours following the crash and the estimated total damage is 30,000 euros
