German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier Emphasizes the Importance of the Crafts for the German Economy
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has highlighted the significance of the crafts for the German economy, praising the organizations for their role in ensuring training and quality standards. At a Berlin event marking the 75th anniversary of the Central Association of German Crafts and 125 years of the Craft Chambers, Steinmeier commended the organizations for their efforts, stating that despite globalization and international competition, the crafts will remain a crucial backbone of the German economy.
The head of state also criticized the increasing bureaucracy, calling for measures to alleviate the burden on small businesses. He referenced his patronage of the “Initiative for a Functional State” which focuses on simplifying state regulations. Additionally, Steinmeier announced the introduction of a “Honor Day” to promote voluntary engagement and invited the German economy and crafts to participate.
Expressing concern over the declining trend in the popularity of crafts as a career choice, Steinmeier emphasized the equal value of vocational and academic education. He stressed the need to strengthen the dual training system and promote the integration of foreign skilled workers. Steinmeier warned against hate speech targeting people with a migration history and underscored the importance of democratic fundamental values.
