Crafts Chief Accuses Government of Broken Promise

The president of the German Crafts Confederation, Jörg Dittrich, has voiced strong concerns regarding the current economic policies of the federal government. He expressed that the initial optimism surrounding the coalition’s approach has dissipated, particularly concerning issues of reliability.

Dittrich, speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, highlighted the impact of policy reversals, citing the example of intended reductions in electricity taxes that were subsequently retracted. “When promises made in coalition agreements and rapid response programs are short-lived, people begin to question the value of political commitments” he stated. “This is detrimental to investment willingness.

He further elaborated that despite initiatives like investment incentives, businesses are hesitant to order new equipment due to a lack of confidence in the future. “If businesses are unwilling to order machinery even with investment support, it’s an alarming signal” he noted.

Beyond policy volatility, Dittrich also criticized the postponement of essential reforms. “Instead of decisive action, pressing questions are being delegated to committees, creating the impression of an inability to grasp the issues” he asserted. He is calling for a period of decisive action, emphasizing the need for firm decisions moving forward rather than further committees and discussions.
