The SPD and the Greens in Hamburg have signed their new coalition agreement two months after the municipal election. The ceremony took place in the Kaisersaal of the city hall on Tuesday, attended by both the mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) and the deputy mayor Katharina Fegebank (Grüne), as well as the state and party leaders of both parties. The Greens’ party congress had approved the governing program the night before, paving the way for the third consecutive red-green coalition. The SPD had already given its approval at a state party congress the previous weekend. Tschentscher now plans to be re-elected as mayor of Hamburg on May 7 and the new cabinet will then be confirmed by the Hamburg State Parliament.
