Construction sector order intake saw a moderate increase in July 2025, according to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Calendar- and seasonally-adjusted, real orders received rose by 1.9 percent compared to June 2025.
However, this overall increase masks contrasting trends within the sector. While high-rise construction experienced a decline of 5.8 percent in orders received, civil engineering projects saw a notable rise of 8.9 percent. Examining a three-month period, May 2025 to July 2025, calendar- and seasonally-adjusted order intake was down 1.0 percent compared to the preceding three months, reflecting a -5.8 percent shift in high-rise construction and a +3.4 percent shift in civil engineering.
When compared to July 2024, real, calendar-adjusted order intake increased by a substantial 8.7 percent. High-rise construction saw an increase of 10.9 percent, while civil engineering orders rose by 6.7 percent. Nominal (non-price adjusted) orders were 11.4 percent higher than in the same month of the previous year.
Real revenue in the construction sector increased by 1.4 percent in July 2025 compared to July 2024. Nominal revenue climbed by 4.1 percent during the same period, reaching €11.1 billion.
Over the first seven months of 2025, real revenue increased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period in 2024. Nominal revenue saw a greater increase of 4.5 percent. The number of individuals employed in the construction sector rose by 1.2 percent in July 2025 compared to July 2024, indicating a slight expansion in workforce activity.
