According to the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the adjusted order intake in the construction main industry rose by 17.8 percent in March 2025, compared to the previous month, on a calendar and seasonally adjusted basis.
The order intake in high-rise construction increased by 0.5 percent, while that in civil engineering, driven by several large orders, surged by 34.3 percent, marking the highest seasonally adjusted growth in civil engineering since the time series began in 1991.
In a three-month comparison, the adjusted order intake from January to March 2025 was 3.1 percent higher than in the preceding three months, with high-rise construction rising by 1.3 percent and civil engineering by 4.6 percent.
Compared to the same month in the previous year, the real, calendar-adjusted order intake in the construction main industry in March 2025 increased by 18.5 percent, with high-rise construction rising by 5.6 percent and civil engineering by 29.7 percent. The nominal order intake was 22.4 percent higher than in the same month the previous year.
The real turnover in the construction main industry was 2.3 percent higher in March 2025 than in the same month the previous year, while the nominal turnover rose by 4.6 percent to 8.8 billion euros.
In the first three months of 2025, the turnover increased by 4.3 percent in real terms and by 6.5 percent in nominal terms, compared to the same period the previous year.
The number of people employed in the construction main industry in March 2025 was 1.0 percent higher than in the same month the previous year, according to the Federal Statistical Office.
