The US Congress officially confirmed the election win of Republican Donald Trump. On Monday in Washington, no objections were raised by the representatives against the results from the individual US states.
The defeated Democratic candidate’s running mate, Kamala Harris, had to announce the final result. As the outgoing Vice President, she had also been the Senate President and led the session.
Exactly four years ago, Trump supporters had violently stormed the Capitol building to prevent the confirmation of Democrat Joe Biden as the winner. Trump had previously claimed in speeches to his supporters that his victory was stolen from him through fraud. During the storm on the Capitol, five people lost their lives, and over 100 others were injured.
