Confidentiality Breaches Pile Up

In a recent development, the President of the German Bundestag has reported nearly two dozen cases of suspected espionage to the authorities, according to a spokesperson for the Bundestag administration, as reported by the news portal T-Online.

In total, 23 cases have been brought to the Bundestag’s attention, with the President of the Bundestag, in line with a long-standing practice, requesting the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office to launch a criminal investigation and granting the necessary authorization for prosecution in each of the cases.

Some of these incidents involve the Parliamentary Control Committee, responsible for the German intelligence services, as the committee publicly reported in its activity report at the beginning of April that it had again found, in individual cases, that contents from confidential documents and secret discussions of the committee had been thematized in media publications. All such cases have been reported to the President of the Bundestag.
