A coalition of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Brandenburg State Alliance (BSW) has submitted a proposal to establish an inquiry commission in the Brandenburg State Parliament to analyze and scrutinize the state’s measures during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to strengthen the state’s crisis resilience.
The proposal is expected to be discussed in the parliament’s plenum in the coming week, where the SPD and BSW have a majority. The initiative was agreed upon in the coalition contract. The AfD (Alternative for Germany) could potentially also support the proposal, as their federal parliamentary group has already called for an inquiry commission to examine the pandemic.
“It was particularly important for the BSW to ensure, in addition to discussions on a Corona amnesty law, that the proposed commission also includes the perspectives of ordinary citizens, who should report on how they experienced this time” said Christian Dort, the deputy faction leader of the BSW faction. “These views have played a much too small role in recent years.”
The commission is also intended to include people affected by long COVID, those experiencing side effects from the COVID-19 vaccine, and young people who were affected by school closures.
