A recent poll indicates a decline in public support for the governing coalition in Germany, reaching its lowest level since taking office in May. The weekly Sonntagstrend, conducted by the opinion research institute Insa for “Bild am Sonntag” reveals that the Union and SPD parties combined currently garner only 38 percent of voter preference.
The Union party experienced a one-point decrease, now standing at 24 percent. Simultaneously, the SPD also lost one point of support, reaching 14 percent. The AfD maintains its position, holding steady at 26 percent from the previous week and remaining the strongest political force.
The Left party (+1) has surpassed the Green party, securing 12 percent of potential votes compared to the Greens’ 11 percent, representing a one-point drop for the latter. Both the BSW (4 percent) and the FDP (4 percent, a one-point increase from the prior week) would not currently meet the threshold for entry into the Bundestag, according to the survey results.
The poll, conducted by Insa between September 29th and October 2nd, 2024, surveyed a total of 1,186 individuals. Respondents were asked: “If a federal election were to take place next Sunday, which party would you vote for?”
