Climate Protesters Occupy CDU Headquarters

Activists from the group “New Generation” disrupted proceedings at the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus, the headquarters of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), on Monday. According to CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann, the group, identifying as successors to “Last Generation” intended to affix themselves to a bust of Konrad Adenauer during a CDU executive board meeting.

Linnemann reported that the activists attempted to attach a large-scale banner to the building’s exterior facade. He confirmed that police were involved and investigations are underway, encompassing potential charges of property damage, trespassing and possible violation of public order. He described the incident as representing a “new dimension” of protest activity.

He commended the efforts of a technician and a tradesman who, he stated, played a crucial role in preventing the activists from progressing further within the building.

The “New Generation” group has publicly accused the CDU of mismanaging taxpayer funds on Instagram. Their criticism centers on the party’s continued support for fossil fuel subsidies and tax breaks for high-income earners, arguing that these expenditures divert resources from other critical areas. Videos released by the activists show one individual attempting to enter the building disguised as a “private investigator” while carrying a hooded sweatshirt and briefcase, before subsequently being escorted away by police.
