Citizenship Revocations Surge

Citizenship Revocations Surge

A growing number of individuals are losing their German citizenship due to intentionally false information provided during the naturalization process, according to a response from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, currently led by the CSU, to a request from the AfD parliamentary group. The information, reported by “Welt” indicates a notable increase in revocations.

Data reveals that, through September 11th of this year, 293 naturalizations have been effectively withdrawn under Section 35 of the Citizenship Act. This figure contrasts with 232 revocations in 2023 and 174 in 2022.

The Ministry of the Interior clarifies that revocations are recorded only once they become legally binding or become effective. This means that decisions may be documented at a later date. The increase in the overall number of naturalizations granted in recent years is likely contributing to the rise in revocations.
