Grünen-Politikerin Katrin Göring-Eckardt has strongly criticized the debate initiated by Bundestagspräsidentin Julia Klöckner (CDU) on the role of churches. According to Göring-Eckardt, it is inappropriate to blame the churches for thinking about the course of the world and expressing their opinions. She believes that the discussion is superficial and has little to do with the reality of the churches and their role in Germany. Göring-Eckardt also criticized the accusation that the churches are not doing their job properly. She believes it is unfair to blame the churches for intervening in politics. During the pandemic, the churches tried to maintain contact with their believers through various creative means. Göring-Eckardt believes that Christians and church officials expressing their opinions is normal and has been so since the Bible, where Jesus criticized the Pharisees.
