A large majority of parents in Germany consider child poverty a pressing problem. According to a survey commissioned by the non-governmental organization Save the Children, 88 percent of those questioned agreed with this assessment.
The survey also shows that the consequences of the high inflation rate are not yet over. According to the results, one in seven parents is concerned about their own financial future, with 15 percent saying they are making great or very great efforts to worry that they will no longer be able to cover the basic needs of their family due to financial reasons.
Among single-parent households, 30 percent are concerned and in families with a net household income of less than 3,000 euros, 36 percent are worried about being able to cover the basic needs. Furthermore, 23 percent of families with an income of less than 3,000 euros reported that they are having to cut back on expensive food, which in turn leads to a less diverse and less healthy diet.
Forsa surveyed a total of 1,005 parents of minor children in Germany in December 2024 and January 2025.
