German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, a member of the Christian Democratic Union, has shared his impressions of a private conversation with US President Donald Trump, stating that the tone of their discussion behind closed doors was similar to Trump’s public demeanor.
During a meeting at the Republica in Berlin, Merz described his first conversation with Trump as “personally good” mentioning that he congratulated the US President on the election of a new American Pope and discussed Chicago, a city he has frequently visited for work.
Regarding the threatened US tariffs on the European Union, Merz emphasized the importance of the EU’s unity in the coming five weeks, saying, “We can use this time best if we appear very united and one in Europe and that’s what we will do.
