French Authorities Report Two Fatalities and Widespread Unrest Following PSG’s Champions League Victory
In the aftermath of Paris Saint-Germain’s dominant 5-0 win in the Champions League final, celebrations in France have turned violent, resulting in a loss of life and widespread damage. According to the Interior Ministry, two people have died and nearly 200 others were injured in the chaos, with at least 559 people arrested across the country, including 491 in the capital city of Paris.
Tragedy struck in Paris when a motorcyclist, just a few kilometers from the Champs-Élysées, was fatally struck by a car. In the southwestern city of Dax, a 17-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed during a celebration of PSG’s victory. A police officer in Normandy was also seriously injured, requiring artificial life support, after being hit by a firework during the festivities.
In addition to the loss of life, the unrest has also led to widespread looting and property damage, with several businesses targeted and their windows shattered. The victory, secured by PSG in Munich on Saturday, has sparked a wave of jubilation and chaos across France.
