A fragile ceasefire has been agreed upon between Israel and Iran, according to a statement by US President Donald Trump. In a social media post, Trump extended his congratulations to both nations, saying, “Heartfelt congratulations to all.”
The ceasefire is set to take effect at 7 a.m. local time in Israel and 6 a.m. in Iran, pending the completion of the last ongoing missions by the two countries, as stated by Trump. The US President praised Israel and Iran for demonstrating the endurance, courage and intelligence to bring an end to the so-called “12-day war”.
Trump also expressed his relief that the conflict did not escalate further, potentially ravaging the entire Middle East for years to come. In his statement, he concluded by invoking a blessing from a higher power for Israel, Iran, the Middle East, the United States and the world at large.
