A reported ceasefire between Israel and Iran has taken effect, according to a statement by US President Donald Trump on his personal social media platform.
Earlier, Trump had announced that a 12-hour ceasefire would begin at 6 am Central European Time, with the Iran and Israel to hold their fire for the initial 12 hours before an official end to the conflict is declared. The Iranian government signalled that it would cease its attacks if Israel also halted its strikes.
Before the reported ceasefire, Iran launched a rocket attack on southern Israel, the Iranian state broadcaster Irib confirmed, resulting in the deaths of three people and two others injured, according to the Magen David Adom humanitarian organization. The Israeli military reported that its air force had launched a pre-dawn strike on rocket launch sites in Iran.
The United States had launched a massive military strike on three Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend, claiming to have completely destroyed the facilities. Israel had previously launched a significant attack on Iran, with a subsequent exchange of rocket fire between the two nations. A reported Iranian counterattack on a US military base in Qatar was averted, according to the US President, with no one injured due to an Iranian warning.
